Designed to provide the complete integrated solution for the aspiring competitive young athlete, IAD’s flagship program, the IAD® Academy, utilizes an intensive curriculum seamlessly combining proven performance specialists, a process-based approach, scientific-based methodology, and exceptional support services in the finest world-class facilities.
The IAD® training regimen applies a multi-lateral approach to effectively prepare athletes competing in a broad range of both team sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, and lacrosse, as well as individual sports such as track and field, tennis and golf.
IAD® is committed to an intensive training process implemented in a 6:1 athlete to coach ratio, with the emphasis on the proper execution of fundamental skills through sequential curriculums developed by proven coaches.
In addition, all Academy athletes and their parents are encouraged to participate in workshops offered as an additional service of Academy training throughout the year which address important topics such as sports nutrition, mental preparation, and college recruiting. These workshops are offered by both professionals at the Academy as well as outside experts in their respective fields.
The Academy training year is equal to one “Macrocycle”, consisting of four 12-week terms, referred to as “mesocycles” (i.e. Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer). IAD® makes specific recommendations on the training session frequency and duration, which are scientifically-based and prescribed to maximize the training effect for each athlete.
The IAD® Academy utilizes the following model to describe long-term athletic development. Our curriculum focuses on addressing athletes in the “Learn”, “Train”, and “Compete” stages.
PERFORMANCE TRAINING
This is the core of the IAD® Academy approach, committed to developing a broad foundation for the athlete. This model is designed to facilitate the development of the six major components of athleticism:
- Speed
- Strength
- Suppleness
- Stamina
- Strategy
- Skill
IAD® Performance Training identifies, integrates, and sequences the critical components of athletic formation and is supported by research conducted by experts in sport science, proven practical training expertise, and the application of our own leading-edge technology, known as IAD Track®. This internally-developed, proprietary software tool, accessible online, analyzes selected quantitative data measured during the training process to enhance the systematic and progressive development of the athlete.
Individual training expectations
Athletes in the “Learn” stage of development are encouraged to complete
• Two 60-minute training sessions per week.
Athletes in both the “Train” and “Compete” stages of development are expected to complete
• Two to three 90-minute training sessions per week.
Team Performance Training
In order to meet the growing demand from teams for training to increase performance and reduce risk of injury, the IAD® Academy "High Performance" program for team training allows competitive teams to benefit from the same intensive training approach in a larger group format.
Offered to boys' and girls' teams ages 12-18 competing in baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and volleyball, the academy team training program consists of two training sessions each week. For advanced teams ages 15-18, the academy "High Performance" program addresses sport-specific training needs and consists of three training sessions per week outside the competitive season.
Each performance training program emphasizes the integrated development of the six (6) major components of athleticism and the specific athletic requirements of a given sport.
The IAD® Academy “High Performance” program is limited to 20 teams; teams must have a minimum of ten athletes.
The IAD® Basketball Academy program is designed to provide aspiring competitive players, boys and girls, with a consistent systematic approach to individual skill development in a world-class training environment. Year-round skill development programs will emphasize sound execution of proper fundamentals, while addressing the strategic, conceptual, and mental understanding of the sport critical to achieving intelligent play, confidence, and leadership qualities.
It is our belief that knowing how to listen, while asking the right questions, and understanding what is truly important to an individual player is essential for athletic progress. Our training courses are built around these four core components:
- Analyze - provide a comprehensive personal evaluation.
- Design - prepare detailed recommendations and proposals to meet the athlete's goals.
- Implement - coordinate course components based on individual progress.
- Review - monitor performance to ensure the effectiveness of the strategy set forth.
The basketball and volleyball programs consist of two highly-structured training sessions per week.
A player may enroll into our program with the combination of Monday/Wednesday training or Tuesday/Thursday training. The duration of each training session is 90 minutes. Athletes are grouped according to age and ability.
Application to the Academy is offered to boys and girls between the ages of 9-18 or grades 4-12. Athletes are grouped according to evaluation score, age and skill level. All applicants must complete an evaluation and interview prior to enrollment.
